The night was long and there was song. The birds are singing and it's reverie. Don't make a sound, just look around. The rooms are empty but I feel them there. They're everywhere, voices in the air. Nana's pouring coffee into Papa's cup. His hands are strong, her hair is long. And soon enough their house will feel with joy, with little girls and little boys. I have to admit right up front that I did not pass my FBI examination (that's another story and I'm still regretting cheating in Ms. Bertacci's pre-algebra class) and I have no idea as to what they are saying on tape. Cleary, they are talking about Johnny Cash and Mama Cass. Dylan indeed trashed Mama Cass, warning Lennon that "everyone's been with her" and imploring him to not go down that road. Hmmm. Never read about that about her in People Magazine. Once again, another reminder that it is never a good idea to get wasted and start recording.

Dylan & Lennon: Taxicab Confessions
Posted Nov 21, 2005
John Lennon and Bob Dylan talk smack about Johnny Cash and Mama Cass while stoned out of their minds in the back of a London taxi.

Lisa Marie Presley on Tour

I must admit, right up front that I am an Elvis Presley fan. That fact registered clear last night when I saw Lisa Marie Presley's name on the marquee outside Bimbo's in San Francisco. Just to see that name Presley in lights again somehow seemed significant, and also, somehow, personal. Even before the show began, I had to admit that I was actually there to see Elvis's one and only daughter, live and in the flesh. "Would she look like him? Sound like him?" I thought to myself. My place, close to the stage, thanks to the clout of Radio SF and my fanatical determination, was a foregone conclusion. However, I did not anticipate having to battle lesbians - butch and lipstick - for the choice spot, center stage. Lisa Marie has a strong following among the gay community.

The crowd was a respectable mix of tattooed types, the faithful and the curious. I like to think I was part of the latter.

Lisa Marie took to the stage amid cheers, screams and outstretched arms attached to cell phone cameras (which have now replaced cigarette lighters at concerts, in case you did not know). She looked, well, "tiny." In every porportion. Height - small. Hands - small. Arms - short. And she seemed much younger than her age (just shy of forty). She also seemed slightly soft in the midsection, but in a nice, loose, casual way. Her hair was permed in long strands of golden brown . Her face is perhaps a little less striking than the glamorously perfect Rollingstone magazine cover, but those eyes, that perfect nose, the casual slightly crooked smile... unmistakably the progeny of Elvis and Priscilla Presley.

Lisa Marie rocked the crowd at Bimbo's with her unique brand of chip-on-the-shoulder, "f-You," rock and roll music about failed relationships, hope and angst. Her ballads showed that she can in fact sing well, although her strong suit may be her song writing. In this area she surpasses the talents of her father in that he sang songs written by others.

I hesitate to write about a certain moment of the show, for risk of personal embarrassment...but throwing all caution to the wind, here goes...

I was in fact, quite close to the stage and throughout the concert I had ample opportunity to notice & surmise every aspect of Lisa Marie. I found myself quite relaxed as she stood center stage singing a dreamy ballad of what, I just don't know. In fact, I was standing about one yard directly in front of her and I was in a bit of a daze, as I had been standing for some time.
So here's the thing - my daze cleared as I found myself not looking at her eyes, but rather her looking directly into mine. I know this sounds ridiculous she simply bore down on me, or right through me, actually. Our eyes locked for a few moments as she lowered her head slightly and the intense gaze slowly evolved into a sexy curved lip smile, followed by an outstretched arm pointing directly at me, followed by the release of a full faced smile that mirrored mine and acknowledged the moment..

Now, I'll be the first to admit that I may have inadvertently exaggerated a fact or two in the past to "enhance" a run-of-the-mill anecdote for friends and family, but this surreal LMM (Lisa Marie Moment) is told exactly as it was. In fact, immediately after the LMM, I was blushing a bit as Vivian turned to me with jaw dropped in surprise - my very own personal witness! A perfect witness were it not for the fact that Vivian is my wife. I immediately and automatically apologized, but fortunately Vivian thought it was hilarious, or rather, I was hilarious, and she enjoyed teasing me about it immensely. She wanted to know if I was going to wait by the bus as the groupies do, and she wanted to know if our relationship had reached the stage (no pun intended) of dating other people. The answer to all her questions was and is a resounding "no!"
Sorry, Lisa Marie, no disrespect to Elvis, but I'm taken!

http://boss.streamos.com/download/capi001/lisamariepresle/dirtylaundry/video/dirtylaundry_v100.mov

Gordy de Necochea in Damascus, Syria

There goes the neighborhood.
